About

“However skilled an artist may be, and however perfect his technique, if he unhappily has nothing to tell us, his work is valueless.”                                  Jacques Maritain

A floating room is something of an observatory. Home and vehicle.

It never remains in one place long, but it has many windows, so there is always something to be taken from the world beneath it. It is partly the creation of the people in it, and partly the creation of those outside it. This is because all of us create worlds around ourselves to some degree, and we are also shaped by the world we experience outside ourselves.

If ever we find ourselves complaining that there’s nothing good anymore, it’s because we’ve stopped looking. We’ve ceased to wonder.

The Floating Room exists to share music and art which tells something, and ideally, to share the music and art which tells something true. It exists to remind its visitors that there is so much to be wondered at, to be enjoyed and appreciated, so long as we are willing to look for it.

The Floating Room was founded by Joseph Cunningham, a musician, writer, recent college graduate and current atmospherist, who anticipates sleeping with his shoes on. There is so much to be wondered at and to be experienced (especially where music is concerned), that he prefers to be ready for the next move.

Should you ever desire to contact him, he can be reached via email at jttcunningham [at] yahoo [dot] com.

Fellow travelers are welcome. Guests will always have a floor or couch to sleep on.

Welcome to the Room.

“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”

T. S. Eliot
